The publication of the trasncript of an evening's lecture or, more so, a debate between speakers at a public meeting was not an unusual event, especially on the left.

The Rand School of Social Science, founded in 1906 by adherents of the Socialist Party of America, was a realization of a dream of socialists to have their own school to educate workers in class-consciousness. It was also a research bureau, publishing house, and operator of a summer camp for socialist and trade union activists. In 1963, its collection became a key component of today's Tamiment Library and Robert F. Wagner Archives at the Bobst Library at New York University.
