Title

Vita: satirico settimanale [Life: satirical weekly], Anno 2, No. 2. New York: E.M. Grella, 12 Gennaio [January] 1930.

Description

See the general entry for this magazine for some history. This satirical magazine is not to be confused with Vita: rivista dei nostri giorni of Giovannitti and Venanzi that was issued in 1915.

The calendar depicted on the second interior page above is filled with playful misinformation, such as (for February 17) that Machiavelli (not Manzoni) wrote in his immortal "I promessi sposi" the phrase "Eppur si Muove," which I don't think could be found in the Manzoni novel of a much later historical period. Nor do I think that Christopher Columbus discovered gunpowder.

Among the other than historical names in this make-believe calendar are several writers on the contemporary Italian American scene whose works are in the collection, such as Arturo Giovannitti, Silvio Picchianti, Domenico Trombetta and Agostino de Biasi.
