Description
With a preface by Pasquale Ruocco. Cenerazzo was an actor and author of theatre, poetry, songs and Neapolitan caricatures, who arrived in the U.S. at the age of 12. Self-taught, he collaborated with Francesco Ricciardi, performing duets and Neapolitan songs. Ario Flamma says he performed with Mimi Aguglia.
He also worked at the Cocce Press. After World War II, his compositions appeared in La Follia di New York. An important locus of study of theatrical activity among the Italians in the U.S. is the Raccolta Cenerazzo of the Biblioteca Lucchesi Palli, an independent section of the Biblioteca Nazionale Vittorio Emanuele II of Naples. It contains a rich collection of manuscripts and published works.
Durante's Italoamericana contains the one act text (in translation in the American edition of Italoamericana) of an unpublished plan, Rapitori di Fanciulli; ovvero, La Mano Nera [Kidnapper of Children, or The Black Hand], dated 1912.
