Description
A collection of recipes for all kinds of liquors, this handbook also contains recipes for varnishes (or veneers) and insect poisons to kill bedbugs. There is no trace of this work in WorldCat or in any Italian libraries.
Nor have I found anything in the usual sources (Flamma, Schiavo, Durante) about its author, "Professor L. Coppola." He did not author any other work that I have found for this publisher, nor have I found his name anywhere in the business papers of the SLI from the Immigration History Research Center or in the holdings of the IHRC's collection, perhaps the best institutional collection of works like those of our Collection.
It is possible that the author is an ancestor of the illustrious Coppola family (film director Francis Ford Coppola's family), which includes distinguished antecedents and whose family has significant long-standing interests in food and wine.
No date of publication appears, but this work dates from no earlier than 1933, the date of one of the works listed "presso la stessa casa editrice"[at the same publishing house] in the inside rear cover. As well, the prices of the works available - one at $5, one at $10 - is suggestive of the late 1930s or more likely the early 1940s.
