Description

Rosmunda is the rare example of a screenplay written in the Italian community.

Cadicamo (b. Cosenza, 1842; emigrated to U.S. in 1887 - d. New York 1921) was part of an Arbresh (Italian-Albanian) family. He was an editor of L'Eco d'Italia from 1888-1891; he later, in 1891, founded a boarding school in Astoria, the Dante Alighieri school, designed to prevent the loss of Italian language and culture among the children of Italian immigrants. As he put it, "compared to Italian parents, the children do not possess anything Italian except their blood and name. All the rest is being lost; by their assimilation into the country of their birth, their Italian language, character, traditions, attachment and customs are being fatally effaced."

A colorful figure in New York’s Italian colony, Cadicamo is depicted by Bernardino Ciambelli in two novels, including La trovatella di Mulberry Street, in the Collection, where he figures as composer of a chorus set to music by countess Gilda Ruta.
