Title

Faville [Sparks]. New York: Italian Book Co. 1922

Description

This sheet music appears to be an import from Naples (though Naples is mentioned specifically only as the source of a recording on disk of the song), and distributed in New York by the Italian Book Company. As I have noted elsewhere, this arrangement - importation from Italian publishers, and exclusive right of distribution in the U.S. - formed a core part of the IBC's business plan,

Note that in the upper right hand corner of the cover of the sheet music is an advertisement for a School of Tailoring, also in Naples. This is suggestive that there was little or no editing of the sheet music before its importation to the U.S., and no printing in the U.S. Compare with, say, L'Asino: the Roman issues imported to the U.S. continued to contain advertisements from Roman businesses. The U.S.-based publication of the same magazine, on the other hand, contained advertisements by New York businesses.

The lyrics by Ennio Neri appear to be in Neapolitan dialect.

The second and last page (inside) of the actual music lists only the Copyright by the Società Libraria Italiana, or Italian Book Company, with the phrase "sole agent" mixed in there without a clear referent.
