Description
This analysis of Italian emigration to the Americas up to the mid-1890s is useful generally about early immigration.
After about six pages generally on immigration to the Americas, there are about ten pages on emigration to the U.S. There are longer sections on emigration to Argentina (about 14 pages), and Brazil (more than 20 pages), which makes sense given that immigrations to South America to some extent predated the initiation of mass migrations to North America in the 1880s.
About ten years before the publication of this work, Vincenzo Grossi, a lecturer at the University of Genoa on American ethnography, gave a talk at the University of Turin about indigenous people in the Americas. This might be the same person. There was also a prominent Catholic priest - later canonized - by the same name (b. 1845 - d. 1917), but casual research has not revealed if it is the same person.
