Title

Caricatures in four parts | Caricature in quattro parti. New York: La Follia di New York - Marziale Sisca, 1908.

Description

This is the rare first edition of a series of editions of this popular collection of caricatures drawn by the great Neapolitan tenor, Enrico Caruso (b. Naples, 1873; d. Naples, 1921). La Follia di New York published Caruso’s caricatures in individual issues for years before gathering them in book form.

Caricatures begins with a brief bilingual text of Caruso’s life, and includes illustrations of many world figures, including political leaders as well as those in opera, music and theatre.

Part II, “Types of Our Colony,” includes sketches of many writers and publishers whose works that are part of the collection, including those of Mayor des Planches, Luigi Roversi, Francesco Tocci, and the publisher (and brother of Riccardo Cordiferro) Marziale Sisca.

Later editions of this collected work lack “Types of Our Colony,” reflecting the decline and passing of “our colony.”
